What Makes Bookends Counselling Unique?

At Bookends Counselling, I believe counselling should feel like a safe place to exhale, not another place where you have to perform, explain, or have everything figured out.

What makes Bookends unique is the combination of professional counselling, a warm human approach, and a deep understanding of grief, relationships, and life transitions.

Whole-person support - Your emotions, relationships, experiences, values, and the changes happening around you all matter.

Specialized support for life transitions - Separation, divorce, retirement, caregiving, changing relationships, empty nests, identity shifts, and other major life changes can leave you wondering, “Who am I now?” You don't have to navigate that uncertainty alone.

Grief-informed counselling - Grief isn't only about losing someone. We can grieve relationships, identities, dreams, health, roles, routines, and the future we imagined.

A warm, non-judgmental space - You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what you need. We can figure that out together.

Trauma-informed & neurodivergent-affirming - I strive to create a space where you can show up as your authentic self.

Your story comes first - Counselling isn't one-size-fits-all. Our work is shaped around your needs, strengths, values, and goals.

You don't have to have it all figured out before you begin.

At Bookends Counselling, we can pause, make sense of where you've been, understand where you are, and gently explore what comes next.

Where your story is honoured -from first chapter to last.

About Maureen

My path to becoming a counsellor has been a winding one, shaped by a love of people, a curiosity about their stories, and a deep desire to help.

I began my career as a librarian, where I learned the beauty of listening, creating welcoming spaces, and helping people find the resources they needed. From there, I spent time working in government and healthcare, where I developed an even deeper appreciation for the many experiences and challenges people carry with them.

My growing passion for healthcare eventually led me to become a Registered Massage Therapist. I loved helping people feel more comfortable in their bodies, but as I got to know my clients, I began to see how often physical pain was accompanied by something deeper: tress, grief, relationship struggles, caregiving, or a life that had changed in ways they hadn't expected.

I also experienced the loss of my own parents, and grief became something I came to understand not only through my work, but through my own life. I learned that loss can touch every part of us, and that sometimes what we need most is simply a safe, compassionate person to sit beside us while we find our way.

Over time, I felt called to do more.

I became a Professional Counsellor so I could support people in a different way, by offering a place where they can slow down, feel heard, make sense of what they're experiencing, and gently explore what comes next.

Today, Bookends Counselling brings together all the chapters of my own journey: the curiosity and love of stories I discovered as a librarian, the perspective I gained through government and healthcare, the connection I found through massage therapy, and the personal understanding that comes from experiencing loss and change.

I believe you don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out. Sometimes, you just need someone willing to walk beside you for a little while.

Wherever you are in your story, there is room for you here.
