Frequently Asked Questions

Some insurance providers do cover counselling, just as the cover a visit to a psychologist. Other insurance companies do not. Please check with your insurance provider before you book you session. If insurance is not available, Bookends Counselling does offer a sliding scale for payment, so please reach out and we can chat about it.

You don't need to be in crisis or have everything figured out before reaching out. Counselling can be helpful when you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or simply trying to navigate a difficult season of life. If something in your life doesn't feel quite right and you'd like some support finding your way forward, counselling may be a good place to begin.

There is no single reason people come to counselling. At Bookends Counselling, I support individuals and couples navigating grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, separation and divorce, caregiving, stress, and other significant changes in life. Sometimes you may not even know exactly what you need—you just know that things feel different. That's okay, too.

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and talk about what has brought you to counselling. We'll discuss what you're hoping for, what support might look like, and any questions you may have. There is no test to pass and no perfect way to begin. You simply get to show up as you are.

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, while others may prefer to meet every two weeks or as needed. Together, we'll consider what feels appropriate for your circumstances, goals, and season of life. Counselling should support your life—not add another source of pressure to it.
